shop visit: Granja Gráfica I first encountered Granja Gráfica via Instagram and immediately connected with their work and philosophy. Gaby and Elies gave me a warm welcome to their shop in Gracia, a hipstery artisan neighborhood in Barcelona where the graffiti is as good as the gelato. We fell to press talk, print analysis, and small business shenanigans so quickly and with such ease you’d never guess there was an ocean and a continent and a half between our two shops. And in case the connection wasn’t sweet enough already: granja means farm, echoing the nickname of the shop where I apprenticed, Stern & Faye’s beloved Print Farm. Various papers / A4 (~8×12 in) / Linea 16 / 1 ink Written, designed, and printed by Myrna Keliher during a three day residency at Tipoteca Italiana, Cornuda, Italy. Text gathered in English and Italian from exhibit quotes on the museum walls, then arranged into a poem, translated fully into each language, and handset in Linea. Open edition, 60 copies printed. This was the artist’s first foray into translation and bilingual typesetting. It was a great honor to work with Claudio Rocha, Sandro Berra, and so many other highly skilled folks at the beautiful, well-curated, and well-appointed Tipoteca. Letterpress Workers 2016

This year’s LPW theme – really though, anything but. Love letters all around. I’m just back from two weeks in Italy, the first in Milan, the second at Tipoteca Italiana and then Venice. I am sitting here back in New York feeling a little sad, missing all the lovely new friends I made and knowing I won’t see them for quite some time. Oh time. But what a time! Letterpress Workers (LPW) is a group artist residency organized by Oficina Tipografica Novepunti in Milan, Italy. First and foremost, it’s about the work.
