Varied edition: no two gold foil arcs are the same. They vary in their path, placement, and balance of matte/shine. Each arc is applied by hand with a hundred-year-old bronze wheel that holds a lot of stories in its irregularities.

Printed on a 1950 Vandercook press from handset type with hand-tooled gold foil. 1 ink / 2 passes. Type is Perpetua. Blind deboss of Expedition logo on front, credit on reverse:

From The Second Four Books of Poems, Copper Canyon Press. Copyright 1970 W.S. Merwin. Used by permission. Print by Expedition Press, 2026.

Originally created for Terry Tempest Williams' class "Finding Beauty in a Broken World" at Harvard Divinity School. Terry and Copper Canyon were kind enough to say yes to a further edition so this poem can be shared widely. You can also find it in the anthology A House Called Tomorrow: Fifty Years of Poetry.

*Available for sale in the United States & Canada only! We love our international customers, but this project came with very particular permissions.
