Reading “Saturn’s Rings” by Ellen Bass
Poetry Lunch S2E10
Reading “Saturn’s Rings” by Ellen Bass from Like a Beggar, published by Copper Canyon Press.

This poem puts my feet firm on the ground by helping me feel the vastness of this world and beyond, followed by my own smallness and then permission to not be in control of all the things I can’t control.
I feel quite calm every time I get to the end of this poem. While it draws up many sadnesses and curious connections, it lets them go as it moves through memory and acknowledgment back to being.
Gratitude to Ellen for this poem and all the close readings she’s brought to me recently.
